White Hart Service Station has been serving customers in the local area for over 60 years and is currently owned by Ian Reading and managed by Ian Mowatt.
Late 1950s
Construction started in 1958 for a small petrol station to serve the local community of Hockley, with the addition of a mechanic facilities – the garage opened its doors for the first time the same year.
In its early years, the site was managed by locals Ron & Yvonne Claydon - who lived in the bungalow on the opposite corner of Hill Lane. The bungalow formed part of the garage estate, before being sold off in later years.
Whilst the garage no longer sells petrol, it continues to serve the local community with MOT's and servicing, as well as our extended services including; tyres & alignment, computer diagnostics, air conditioning and other motoring repairs.
Mid 1980s
During the mid 1980's, then owner Harry Mills became known for selling a range of used cars and caravans to locals looking to book holidays in one of the many holiday parks popping up throughout the UK.
Late 1980s
In 1989, Ian Shadbolt took over management of the garage and later formed White Hart Service Station Ltd, the same limited company still owns the garage to this day.
Around 1989/90, the garage underwent a number of improvements to its facilities - including an additional ramp and purpose-built office/reception area to better serve the increasing number of customers.
Early 1990s
Since the early 1990's, the garage has sold a range of used cars - becoming locally renowned for their low mileage, quality and above all the friendly service.
2000s to Present
After Ian Shadbolt’s retirement in early 2000’s, current owner Ian Reading took sole directorship of the site and continues to run the garage and car sales businesses.
In the mid 2000's, the garage became one of the few British Standard Kitemark for Automotive Services accredited garages in the UK and continues to maintain the high standards that it sets out.
